- Over half a million twinkling lights December sees more than 500,000 lights sparkling at Leavenworth’s Town Square, resembling every old-fashioned holiday scene you can think of. The merry-making continues all the way to the evening, when performers break into happy song. The town is doing away with the traditional flipping of lights this year. Instead, everyone can see the lights seven days a week from Thanksgiving to February.
- It’s a sledder’s paradise Get a tube or saucer and glide all the way down Front Street Park’s spacious hilly lawns. The magic continues with sledders enjoying themselves against a backdrop of glittering holiday lights.
- Our furry friends see action, too Imagine a pack of man’s best friend taking happy humans through a wintry landscape of majestic mountain views. Holiday revelers are sure to bring with them a treasure trove of memories.
- Ski jumping is fun Fly high at Leavenworth Ski Hill Jump. Coaches guide kids and adult newbies on the sport. Beginners can start with the 15-meter jump and advance as far as the 27-meter ramp.
- Families and shoppers have fun at the yearly Christkindlmarkt Pick up stocking stuffers and plenty of souvenirs in this popular shopping haven that opens Friday to Sunday starting at 10 a.m. Choose from artisan items and handmade goods. Its Bavarian-inspired theme boasts authentic eats and entertainment for the family. The traditional lantern parade is canceled this year due to COVID.
- Explore the backcountry in snowshoes Inhale that refreshing mountain air, gape at scenic mountains and gently flowing waters in a snowshoeing excursion along the magical Wenatchee and Icicle Rivers. Then reward yourself with gourmet lunch and select your choice tipple from the many wineries in town.
- Nutcracker Museum
’s display is a must-see Wander through the museum’s shelf upon shelf of toy wooden soldiers that were favorite staples of the holidays. Marvel at the world’s biggest collection of nutcrackers. Check out almost 7,000 ivory metal, porcelain and wooden figurines of Donald Duck, Yoda, and others from over 50 countries.
- The Village Voices perform timeless holiday songs This community choir has been spreading holiday cheer with their version of Handel’s Messiah and other songs at Front Street Park gazebo. The choir has five performances in December.
- Sleigh rides make memories Literally ride on a one-horse open sleigh, or feel like a passenger in Santa’s mythical sleigh. Leavenworth offers a host of sleigh rides against snowy backdrops to evoke yuletide cheer.
Enjoy holday fun while remaining safe; masks are required in public areas. Vehicle owners are advised to go early since most paid parking lots get easily filled up.
