Regular maintenance is the key to having a healthy and safe home environment. A home that is kept clean and in excellent condition is less likely to develop issues that could be costly and time-consuming to deal with.

The good news is, a lot of regular maintenance tasks aren’t overwhelming and are effective at keeping any home in tip-top shape for years to come. Here’s a handy list of maintenance tips for your Wenatchee home:

Deal with dust

Excessive amounts of dust can pose a serious threat to our health. In addition to containing mites and particles which cause allergies, dust may also contain traces of harmful chemicals such as lead and pesticides.

Wiping surfaces and items with a damp cloth is the best way to get rid of dust, as the particles will adhere to the cloth. Remember to routinely wash floor mats and throw rugs as well.

Vacuum your floors

Carpeted floors should be vacuumed at least twice a week. Vacuuming is an effective way to eliminate dust, pet dander, dirt, and other types of contaminants that could compromise the health of household members.

Inspect your exteriors

Regular inspection of a home’s exterior is something that should be a part of all home maintenance plans.

Keep an eye out for any signs of damage, and make the necessary repairs before it becomes a bigger issue. Check the trimming around all windows and doors for signs of decay or damage. Take note of trim or home siding that might be loose or weathered. Repaint and repair as soon as you get the chance.

Control moisture levels

Moisture in your home can lead to mold, which causes health problems and attract pests like insects and rodents.

Stop moisture in its tracks by performing repairs on leaky pipes or sinks as soon as you spot them. Leave windows open from time to time to keep rooms well ventilated, or consider installing exhaust fans in your bathrooms and kitchen to bring down the humidity. Don’t forget to remove and clean your exhaust fans at least once a year to keep them running smoothly, so they can effectively eliminate moisture in your home.

Check heat and cooling systems

Faulty climate control systems can become a serious conductor of pollution in your home. Remember to clean all vents and replace filters regularly. Have your heating and air conditioning system checked by a professional from time to time in order to ensure optimum performance.

Clear out your gutters

Clean your gutters as the seasons change, or at least twice a year. Gutters overflowing with dry leaves and other debris can lead to costly water damage.

Remember to inspect and clean your gutters in the spring and fall. Scrape away the muck, seal any leaks you spot, and replace damaged sections as needed.
